H Block Geometry (Day 5) Fri., Nov. 30 — Isosceles and Equilateral Triangles

Today: You learned about the Base Angles Theorem and its converse and the related Equilateral and Equiangular theorems.  You did a great job with these, once you were focused :).  You were also quite patient while I surveyed you and told about the criteria for past, present, and future grading.

Homework: p. 188/ 7-25 odd, 27-31.

Next Class: Right triangles!  Yay for the Pythagorean Theorem and all that comes with it!

B Block Algebra 1 (Day 5) Stem and Leaf Plots

Today:  Some of you were actually doing what you were supposed to do, and you are probably the ones reading this now.  I thank you.  I was hoping you would have time to get ahead if you are not usually feeling challenged in this class.  For those of you who did not do your homework, I was hoping you would have the chance to catch up on what you missed.  Apparently, some of you do not appreciate grace when it is given in the form of marking off the fact that you did not do your homework or giving you a second chance at anything.

We reviewed the homework, because after the survey, the criteria, and your past work, that was all we had time for.

Homework: None.  You have a quiz, so you might want to look over mean, median, mode, and range to make sure you know what they are and how to calculate them.  You will also need to know how to do stem and leaf plots and how to find the measures of central tendency from them.

Next Class: Quiz on mean, median, mode, range, and stem and leaf plots.  We will also do box and whisker plots.

F BLock Algebra 2 (Day 5) Fri., Nov. 30 — Factoring GCFs, Differences of Squares, and by Grouping

Today: You reviewed factoring with GCFs, factoring by grouping, and factoring differences of squares.  There are patterns to each that can be found in section 5.4.

Homework: On the worksheet that you were given, you need to find the problems that fit these patterns.  Hopefully, you took notes on them!

Next Class: We will factor trinomials.

F BLock Algebra 2 (Day 4) Thurs., Nov. 29 — Test Part 2

Today: I had more people tell me that I didn’t announce this test, which is crazy….  How can you have a part 1 without a part 2?!  Anyway, you took the second part today — for better or for worse.  It took the whole class period, so we weren’t able to go over anything else.

Homework: None.

Next Class: We will begin in earnest with the factoring, beginning with GCFs and moving through the special cases to the normal ones

A Block Geometry (Day 4) Thurs., Nov. 29 — Isosceles and Equilateral Triangles with a Dash of Pythagorean Theorem

Today: You went over the Base Angles Theorem and its converse.  You did well with the logic and the skills.  You also were able to move on to the vocabulary and introduction to the Pythagorean Theorem.  I’m excited about how much you guys already know.

Homework: Is only on the isosceles triangle bit: p. 7-25 odd, 27-31.

Next Class: You will learn more about the Pythagorean Theorem and its other uses in coordinate geometry and in determining types of triangles.

D Block Algebra 1B (Day 4) Thurs., Nov. 29 — Multi-Step Inequality Word Problems and Challenges

Today: We went over the even problems from your assignment.  I thought we would make it through more.  I guess I thought more people would be working with us.  Thanks, Danya, for your participation!  Sorry for the forced labor from the rest of you.

Homework: p. 222/ 41-44, 45-49 odd, 54 -66 (multiples of 3), 68-75.

Next Class: Compound inequalities

B Block Algebra (Day 3) Wed., Nov. 28 — Stem and Leaf Plots

Today: You reviewed and asked questions about the homework and measures of central tendency.  Then, we talked about displays of data — stem and leaf plots and box and whisker plots.  We were only able to get to stem and leaf plots today.  It was interesting…  Somewhat.

Homework: p. 44/ 14-21

Next Class: You will learn about box-and-whisker plots.  We will also pick topics for your statistics study.  Bacteria projects due Friday!

H BLock Geometry (Day 3) Wed., Nov. 28 — Quiz and Intro to Isosceles Triangles

Today: You took the quiz on the beginning of Chapter 4 — Intro to Triangles.  We had enough time to talk about the vocabulary you will need to work with isosceles triangles.  You even had a little free time at the end of class — who ever thought?!

Homework: None.

Next Class: Further study of isosceles and equilateral triangles.  You guys might move through this faster than I thought!

F BLock Algebra 2 (Day 3) Wed., Nov. 28 — Graphing: Systems Test (Part 1)

Today: You completed the first part of the Chapter 3 test, which was solving systems of equations and linear inequalities by graphing.  This worked out well since it was a shortened block.  we even had time to start talking about factoring — our next topic.

Homework: Prepare for the next part of the test, which is on everything else in Chapter 3.

Next Class: You will take part 2 of the Chapter 3 test.  We will continue talking about factoring if there is time, but I anticipate there will be none.

A Block Geometry (Day 2) Tues. Nov. 27 — Quiz and intro to Isosceles and Equilateral Triangles

Today: You took the quiz on the introduction to triangles.  We spent a bit of time going over homework and answering questions (good thing)!  So we didn’t have time to do much after the quiz.  You were able to learn about the basic definitions for isosceles triangles to keep from having homework tonight.  🙂  Good work…  except for Phil, but he caught on…

Homework: None!  Unless you have the time and want to get ahead.  Then, the next assignment will be p. 188/ 7-25 odd, 27-31.

Next Class: You will learn more about isosceles and equilateral triangles.  It will require you to know about opposite sides and angles.
