Geometry = News and Holidays

We made a good start on the projects!  I am SO excited!  I think you guys are going to amaze me and yourselves with how quickly you will accomplish this task!  I can’t wait to see how you make this happen!

Math exams are done, so I’ll have those graded before the week ends.  I can’t wait to see how you did!  I talked to a few of you and was very encouraged to hear that you thought it was long, but not hard.  That’s good news!

Take a break from math!  I know some of you will have things you need to do over the holidays, but let your Informal Geometry brain rest up for the stained glass windows!  Come back ready to tackle this thing before the end of January!  We can do it!

Thanks to those of you who already sent summaries of your group’s work.  You do not need to do that before we get together again.  If you haven’t sent it, don’t!  We’ll take care of it later!

The Coffee Talks were fabulous!  It was so great to talk toy ou guys outside of the classroom over a cup of coffee (or whatever…  I learned some new drinks with you 🙂 ) Thanks for the insights and the encouragement!

Assignment:

Algebra = Updates and holidays

I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas.  Your exams have been corrected.  I hope to have them “graded” by the end of the day.

I’m excited about next semester!  We will be doing some fun projects that will help you learn math skills that you want (or didn’t say you want 🙂 )I will be doing quite a bit of research to figure out how dancing relates to math (San!) and how the other things we mentioned in class can be studied from a math perspective!  Get excited!  We will be working hard during class, so REST and spend time with your families!

Shuma, think of things we can study!!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!  LOVE YOU AND SEE YOU IN 2012!

I hope you’re as excited as I am!  We did a good job getting ready for this project.  On Friday we’ll finish making all the decisions so that we can get rolling when we get back in the new year.  We do need to re-vote on the materials so they can make their report.

Assignment:

  1. We’ll turn reports in for the options offered and decisions made.

A Block (Day 5) Tues.,Dec. 6 – What is a function?

So we still need to answer this question!  Tomorrow we will go ver your quiz and continue working with functions.  We also need to look at your table that you made, and I have another table we need to work on.

H Block (Day 5) Tues., Dec. 6 – Project choices!

Think about what you are going to work on!  You will be working on these things for a while.  Consider your strengths!

We went over the test for Chapter 3.  Hopefully, you have an idea of what you can study for the thirty minutes tonight.  We will continue reviewing in class.  Today counts as part of the review.

Assignment:

  1. Decide what your top choices are for working with committees and groups.  We will finish deciding tomorrow.
  2. We will also be reviewing chapter 2, so any questions you have, please bring them with you.

E Block (Day 5) Tues., Dec. 6 – Be Tough!

You have to be tough to know that you can do anything.  Today was not an example of what being tough looks like.  I need for you to know you can do this — no matter how hot or cold it is, no matter how tired or crazy you feel.  You can work with decimals.  We can learn this.  You have to be tough and you have to work hard.  You can’t whine and complain or look for excuses 00 that’s the easy way.

I look forward to trying again tomorrow!  We can do this!

Assignment:

1.  Be ready to ask specific questions about specific numbers on the review I gave you.

December 5, 2011

A Block (Day 4) Mon., Dec. 5 – Functions!

Today was a struggle, eh?  We reviewed domain and range.  I feel comfortable with your knowledge of dependent and independent variables.  Did it help to ask which one depends on which?  You seemed to be able to answer it better when we did it that way.

We spent a long time ooking at functions and trying to determine what makes a graph a function.  I could tell the wheels were turning.  Don’t give up!

Assignment:

  1. Email me with what you learned about today.  Remember to include something that shows me you understand whatever you tell me.  (The things written above should help.)
  2. Look up function so you can see what we worked on for half an hour!  Be ready to ask me about it if you still don’t understand.  I would suggest going to Google and typing in “what is a function?” or something like that.
  3. make a table comparing the price and power of your guns.

G Block (Day 4) Mon., Dec. 5 – Exam Review

You had the chance to look over your tests.  I hope the review was helpful.  You also had the chance to begin reviewing for your exam.  Remember that those were simple examples of what will be on the exam.  Use those answers to help guide your studying.

Assignment:

  1. Continue studying for your exam.
